Now this may seem like a silly question to ask yourself but haven’t you ever wondered if there is a “best” way to eat a certain type of food?  In this case, if you’re eating turmeric at all you’re already a winner and your body is thanking you.  With its vast beneficial properties, you can’t afford not to incorporate turmeric into your diet. But is there a “right way” to eat this nutritious root? But the bigger question is if this root only restrictive towards a certain type of cuisine?  How can you get the biggest bang for your buck?

Although, the Indian culture is responsible as being the one to introduce, utilize, and engrain turmeric into its daily lifestyle – it has definitely influenced other countries to incorporate it into theirs as well.  Turmeric “roots” (pun intended) its existence in India back almost as far as 4000 years but made its way to China near 700 AD, East Africa, a hundred years later, by 800 AD, and West Africa by 1200 AD.  It took nearly 500 years, but by the 1700s, Jamaica was finally privy to the root’s dietary benefits. Indian exploitation of turmeric in its cuisine has also influenced Middle Eastern and African countries to incorporate this into their foods as well.  So, what kinds of foods can you create with turmeric?

As we outlined in our previous post, you can add turmeric into any hot or cold drink (such as a hot tea, a morning smoothie, or a “golden” latte) to kick-start your day.  You can also add a teaspoonful of turmeric to your eggs to enhance the average omelet.  Furthermore, you can add a dash of turmeric to your rice, vegetables, broths, and soups to boost their robustness, flavor, and colorful aesthetic.  However, turmeric’s versatility and homogeneity should not be limited to just drinks and / or savory foods.  It can be added to virtually anything you want to add it to.  Don’t believe us?  Below are three surprising foods you can try and incorporate turmeric into!

  1. Muffins of your choice– This easy recipe only requires flour, coconut oil, baking powder, the fruit of your choice, the nuts of your choice, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, cardamom, cloves, salt, and turmeric all baked together to make a delicious treat. Now you can feel good about eating that muffin top!
  2. Energy Bars – This is also another simple recipe that you can make with the nuts of your choice, dates, vanilla extract, cinnamon, powdered ginger, and turmeric. A quick way of getting energized and staying nutritious.
  3. Health Booster – During the cold and flu season, this particular remedy can come quite in handy to keep healthy and stay healthy.  All you need is raw honey and turmeric.  Mix it up and eat it every couple hours to keep your immunity strong!
